After the students
and parents
decorated the Sukkah
for this new year of 5771,
I told those who remained
how our prayerbook speaks about
a Sukkah of Peace.
As I looked at the Sukkah today,
sitting peacefully outside the Temple,
I was struck by the peace that is intrinsic
in the Sukkah and in the festival of Sukkot:
the peace of nature and the peaceful place
in creation we can choose to create for ourselves
if we only try.
May we fashion our own Sukkah of Peace
in some way
with each new day.
